Captain's Publishing / Sea Salt is a niche company that publishes books, eBooks in all formats, greeting cards and other products about the sea and related subjects. Our products are available on most major cruise ships, museum stores, on this website and through Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, and all other major retailers.
The company was started in 2004 by Captain Hans Mateboer, a full-time cruise ship captain who sails the world's oceans six months of each year. Originally from the Netherlands, his interest in water, ships, and the sea was only natural - fueled by the many nautical books he read as a child. This led to his decision to attend nautical school and join a shipping line. After sailing on freighters, tankers, bulk carriers, and just about every other type of ship plying the oceans, he "landed" on a cruise ship where he decided to stay. He was involved in the building of four new ships including the vessels for Disney Cruise Line and is now Master with Holland America Line, sailing to every corner of the world.
Captain Hans comes from a long line of family writers - an uncle holds the record at 42 books! The Captain's many articles, written for the trade magazine Cruise Industry News, were a great success and they were compiled in two books called The Captain's Log and The Captain's Journal, and now an eBook sampler called The Captain's Quest. However, the desire to make a difference for young children kept nagging at him - the result being a happy character, Peter the Cruise Ship. Peter and his friends have become the darlings of thousands of children, with further adventures in Alaska and most recently in the Caribbean where they encounter - pirates!!

She began working with Captain's Publishing in 2009, first on a "Would you read this short story" basis and now as editor for the books, designer of the Sea Salt greeting cards, and administrator for our Facebook page. She and her husband Jim are avid cruisers and world travelers. She's pictured here in Rome at the Piazza di Spagna and tending to last-minute business before leaving Port Everglades in Ft. Lauderdale.
